BHU SCIENTIST SELECTED TO REPRESENT INDIA AT THE E-LIFE GLOBAL SOUTH COMMITTEE<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Varanasi.Dr Chandana Basu, currently working in Centre for Genetic Disorders (CGD) has been selected as the member of Global South committee of eLife, one of the prestigious science journals. Dr Basu, joins the committee steered by 10 outstanding scientists from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Dr Basu will be representing the Indian subcontinent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main aim of this Global South Committee is to promote open science by increasing awareness of open publishing and review practices, bring more visibility and support researchers. promote transparency, collaboration and inclusivity and improving the opportunities for the Global South researchers. Furthermore, the idea of having representations from each continent is to bring insight and diverse range of expertise and address the challenges faced, thereby improving the opportunities of researchers of the Global South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Chandana is a geneticist, working on using human genetic variation as a tool to understand biological traits, adaptation and diseases. She said \u201cI thank eLife for this opportunity and this platform will help me to work for higher visibility of researchers of Global South, promote open science which is the need of the hour and inspire more girls in STEM\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof Rajiva Raman, Founder Coordinator, CGD, BHU said \u201cIt is heartening to know that Dr Chandana has been selected to the Global South committee of eLife. It speaks highly of Chandana\u2019s academic caliber and her commitment to carrying science to the society at large. I am confident, as a member of the eLife committee, Dr. Chandana will contribute to promoting inclusivity and transparency in science\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
