Mumbai: In an effort to curb the growing menace of drug abuse and protect the youth from its harmful effects, ‘Hum Bharat Hain Trust’ has initiated the ‘Drug-Free Mumbai, Drug-Free Maharashtra’ campaign.
As part of the initiative, Trust National President Sakib Bharat, under the guidance of spiritual leader Swami Oma the Ak Ji, met Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai and submitted a letter outlining the objectives of the anti-drug campaign. Om Prakash Jain, representing the Jain community, was also present on the occasion.
Through the letter, the Trust sought the Governor’s support and guidance for preventing drug abuse in Mumbai and Maharashtra, creating greater awareness among young people and launching a widespread public awareness campaign involving different sections of society.
The Trust stated that it aims to bring together the government, social organisations, religious and community groups, and the youth to build an effective social movement against drug abuse. It emphasised that combating drug addiction is not merely a law-and-order issue but also a collective responsibility of society.
During the meeting, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma expressed a positive response towards the proposed awareness initiatives against drug abuse and assured the delegation of his cooperation and guidance.
Sakib Bharat said that launching a strong public awareness campaign against drugs from Mumbai and taking it across Maharashtra is the Trust’s resolve.
