
Melodies and Kathak Rhythms Enchant Audience at Ghat Sandhya
Varanasi: The ‘Ghat Sandhya’ programme, organised under the district administration’s cultural initiative ‘Subah-e-Banaras’, presented a captivating blend of music, rhythm and classical dance on Sunday. The soulful performances kept the audience spellbound throughout the evening.
The first segment featured young violinist Sauparno Ghosh from Kolkata, who opened his performance with melodious renditions of ‘Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye’ and ‘Raghupati Raghav’. He concluded with ‘Shiv Kailashon Ke Vasi’. Tabla player Suman Sarkar accompanied him. The impressive jugalbandi of violin and tabla was warmly appreciated by the audience.
The second segment featured Sunidhi Pathak of Varanasi, who presented the North Indian classical dance form Kathak. Beginning with a devotional Devi Stuti, she performed in Dhamar Taal and concluded with Taal-Thumri. The graceful coordination of rhythm, expressions, footwork, movements and the melodious sound of ghungroos made the performance particularly captivating.
Certificates and blessings were presented to the artists by Abhijit Dixit, Director, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Varanasi Region; social worker and Sur Ganga organiser Alok Parikh; Dharmveer Yadav, P.K. Srivastava, K.K. Srivastava, Praveen Kumar Kesari (Chartered Accountant) and Aparajita Kesari (Chartered Accountant, Prayagraj).
The programme was coordinated by Dr Ratnesh Verma, Founder Secretary of ‘Subah-e-Banaras’, while Seema Kesari conducted the programme. Shyam Kumar Kesari proposed the vote of thanks.
Dr Prem Narayan Singh and a large number of spectators were present on the occasion and enjoyed the enchanting evening of music, rhythm and classical dance.
