Villagers Allege Blockage of Drainage Channel in Dhannipur, Seek Police Commissioner’s Intervention
Varanasi: Residents of Gram Panchayat Dhannipur have submitted a memorandum to the Police Commissioner of Varanasi, alleging that the village’s long-established drainage channel has been deliberately blocked by Ward No. 52 councillor’s representative, Shamim Nomani, causing severe inconvenience to local residents.
According to the complainants, the drainage system serving Dhannipur and several nearby villages has, for many years, discharged water through a designated route into the main drain. They claimed that the arrangement has been in place since before the formation of Gram Panchayat Dhannipur and has functioned without interruption.
In their complaint, the villagers alleged that at around 3 a.m. on July 4, 2026, Shamim Nomani, accompanied by several others, filled the drainage chamber with sandbags and sacks, thereby blocking the flow of water. They further alleged that the act was motivated by personal animosity and intended to disturb peace in the area.
The residents said the obstruction has resulted in waterlogging, affecting daily life, children’s access to schools, and overall sanitation in the village. They added that the incident has triggered resentment among residents of Dhannipur as well as neighbouring villages.
The villagers have urged the Police Commissioner to intervene immediately, restore the drainage route, and take appropriate measures to maintain peace and law and order in the area. They warned that if the issue is not resolved promptly, the situation could lead to further hardship for the local population.
