₹20 Lakh Worth of Silk Sarees Allegedly Stolen After Shop Lock Broken
Tenant Riyazuddin Files Complaint Against Ashok Yadav at Cantt Police Station, Alleges Threats
Varanasi: A case of alleged theft of Banarasi silk sarees worth around ₹20 lakh has been reported from Nadesar under the Cantt police station area. Shop operator Riyazuddin has submitted a complaint against Ashok Yadav at Cantt Police Station, seeking registration of an FIR and legal action.
According to the complaint, Riyazuddin had taken the shop at Nadesar on rent for three years through the authorised representative of Dr Anant Narayan Singh. The tenancy agreement was reportedly registered at the Sub-Registrar Office-I, Varanasi, on September 9, 2025.
Riyazuddin stated that he runs a Banarasi silk saree business from the premises and had spent around ₹90 lakh on the shop’s decoration and furniture.
The complaint alleges that on the night of September 29, the shop’s lock was broken and sarees worth approximately ₹20 lakh were allegedly removed from the premises. After learning about the incident the following morning, Riyazuddin reached the shop, where Ashok Yadav allegedly arrived and claimed rights over the premises.
Riyazuddin further alleged that when he objected, he was subjected to verbal abuse and was allegedly threatened with serious consequences if he did not vacate the shop.
He has requested the police to recover the allegedly missing sarees, register an FIR and take legal action against the accused. The allegations are yet to be verified, and police investigation into the matter is awaited.
