Bank Unions Demand Five-Day Banking, Oppose Discriminatory PLI
Varanasi, September 11: On the call of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), a nationwide bank strike was observed on Friday. Members of the Union Bank Officers’ Association (UBOA), Eastern UP, staged a protest outside the Regional Office of Union Bank of India in Varanasi.
Around 500 members participated in the demonstration led by UBOA General Secretary Kaushlendra Kumar, State Youth Wing Convener Santosh Rai, Regional Secretary Arvind Kumar and other office-bearers.
The protesters demanded implementation of a five-day banking week, citing the commitment made in March 2024, and withdrawal of the discriminatory Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. Speakers said employees were dissatisfied over the alleged exclusion of the contribution of nearly 94 percent of the workforce under the PLI system.
The association appealed to the government and the Indian Banks’ Association to hold meaningful discussions with employee representatives and resolve the pending demands at the earliest.
